We are currently looking for a Software Engineering Team Lead for our Telescope team. The Telescope team are a full-stack team that deliver near real-time insights to our editorial colleagues, so they can make data informed decisions. Their work helps support the mission of the BBC to ensure we are keeping everyone informed about world events. Telescope is used in Newsrooms around the world, every day. This team is a cross-discipline team, who are building not only the front-end experiences used by editorial staff, but also building the infrastructure and data products required. They are part of a wider group of teams working on data insight tooling in our Data Platform department whose mission is to help ensure everyone at the BBC is able to make data informed decisions that benefit our audiences.

Job Role:

Band: D

Salary Range: £65,000 – £85,000
Contract type: Permanent
Location: London – Hybrid Role (1-2 days in the office)

Interview process at BBC for Software Engineer:

This role would require a virtual 2hr interview which will be made up of:

  • 30-minute Technical presentation and discussion.
  • 10 minute break
  • 1hr 10 min Competency Interview

This is a hybrid role, mixing expert technical knowledge with setting the direction for your team, managing your engineers day to day  and supporting their careers.

        ○ Ensure that the team’s technical product documentation is always complete, accurate and coherent.
 

Skills Required to be Software Engineer At BBC:

Experience of leadership

  •  Experienced Team Lead with experience of supporting Software Engineering teams.
  • Recruitment, line management and mentoring experience.
  • The ability to influence diverse and senior stakeholders.
  • Establishing and promoting best practices within teams.
  • Committed to growing and hiring a diverse engineering team.

Technical Stack & Experience

  • Hands-on experience of Web development Technologies: React /Typescript/Javascript / JSX / Cypress /Node / NextJS
  • Experience of AWS Technologies, such as: S3 / Redis / Mongo / Elastic / ECS / SQS/ SNS or similar
